Activities in the Children’s Department

WINTER STORY HOURS: Story Hours for ages 3-5 will be offered beginning January 13, running for five weeks. The 40-minute sessions include storytelling, fingerplays, songs, games and crafts. Classes will be offered on Tuesday at 5:30 & 6:30 p.m., Wednesdays at 9:30 and 11am, and Thursdays at 9:30 and 11 a.m. Registration is required, and begins Friday, January 2 for Normal residents, and Monday, January 5, for residents outside of Normal. To register for this FREE program, call 454-4668.

FAMILY STORY HOURS: Family Story Hours will be offered at 10 a.m. Friday, January 23 & Saturday, January 24 in the Community Room. This FREE family activity is designed for preschoolers accompanied by an adult, and includes stories, songs and a craft activity. There is no registration required for this program. If you are planning to bring a large (more than 10) group of children, please notify Jennifer at the library 2 days in advance so that we can have enough craft supplies on hand. For more information, call 454-4668.

SNOWMAN CRAFT: The weather outside may be frightful, but the snowmen you’ll make are delightful! Preschoolers through 6th graders accompanied by an assisting adult are invited to “Make a Snowman at the Library” – drop in between 10am-1pm Saturday, January 24, in the Discovery Room. For this FREE family activity, families are asked to bring one new all-white kid-size tube sock (no stripes) per person; the library will provide all other supplies. Call 454-4668 for more information.

TUESDAY TALES: Preschoolers and their families are invited to the Children’s Department Book Nook every Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. beginning January 20 to enjoy stories. No registration is required for this free story time.

For more information about these and other activities,
call the Children’s Department, 454-4668.

Library Patrons Can Park in Deck for FREE!

The public parking deck just east of the Bank of Illinois has opened, which will provide 600+ additional parking spaces for library patrons. Library patrons can park in the deck for free. Vouchers to use in the deck’s payment machines will be given to library patrons who request them; you will need to request a voucher each time you visit the library and park in the deck for longer than the first free hour.

Mitten Tree Collection Through January 2

Please help us help needy children and families keep warm by donating new or clean, gently used mittens, scarves, gloves and hats to the NPL Mitten Tree. Items collected will be distributed through Normal schools and community centers. The NPL Mitten Tree is on the main floor, and we will be collecting through January 2. We appreciate your generosity to those less fortunate in our community.

Teen Activities at NPL

The Anime/Manga Club will meet at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, January 6 & 20. The January 6 program is the rescheduled holiday party with a special Christmas anime and a white elephant gift exchange. Call Kristi at 452-1757 for more information about either of these events.

NPL’s Teen Advisory Council will meet Thursday, January 8 & 22, 4pm in the Community. All teens in grades 7-12 are welcome, and snacks will be served.

Movie Matinee for Adults at NPL

NPL’s Movie Matinee series continues this month at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, January 15. This month’s offering is My Favorite Wife starring Cary Grant, Irene Dunne, Randolph Scott and Gail Patrick. Ellen Arden arrives 7 years after being given up for dead in a shipwreck, to find her husband Nick just remarried to Bianca. Hilarious confusion reigns before Nick chooses his favorite wife. Bring a friend and enjoy the afternoon – free, and snacks provided!

Donate Your Used Books

The Friends of NPL are happy to accept donations of used book throughout the year.
Bring them to the library marked ‘for the Friends book sale’. Please DO NOT leave your book donations at the off-site book drops!! All donations for the sale must be brought in to the library. Thanks!
