in the Children’s Department
WINTER STORY
HOURS: Story Hours for ages
3-5 will be offered beginning January
13, running for five weeks. The 40-minute
sessions include storytelling, fingerplays,
songs, games and crafts. Classes will
be offered on Tuesday at 5:30 &
6:30 p.m., Wednesdays at 9:30 and
11am, and Thursdays at 9:30 and 11
a.m. Registration is required,
and begins Friday, January 2 for Normal
residents, and Monday, January 5,
for residents outside of Normal.

FAMILY STORY
HOURS: Family Story Hours
will be offered at 10
a.m. Friday, January 23 & Saturday,
January 24 in the Community
Room. This FREE family activity is
designed for preschoolers accompanied
by an adult, and includes stories,
songs and a craft activity. There
is no registration required for this
program. If you are planning to bring
a large (more than 10) group of children,
please notify Jennifer at the library
2 days in advance so that we can have
enough craft supplies on hand. For

SNOWMAN CRAFT:
The weather outside may be
frightful, but the snowmen you’ll
make are delightful! Preschoolers
through 6th graders accompanied by
an assisting adult are invited to
“Make a Snowman at the Library”
– drop in between
10am-1pm Saturday, January 24, in
the Discovery Room.
For this FREE family activity, families
are asked to bring one new all-white
kid-size tube sock (no stripes) per
person; the library will provide
all other supplies. Call 454-4668

TUESDAY TALES:
Preschoolers and their families
are invited to the Children’s
Department Book Nook every
Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. beginning January
20 to enjoy stories.
No registration is required for this
free story time.

Library
Patrons Can Park in Deck for FREE!
The public parking
deck just east of the Bank of Illinois
has opened, which will provide 600+
additional parking spaces for library
patrons. Library patrons can
park in the deck for free.
Vouchers to use in the deck’s
payment machines will be given to
library patrons who request them;
you will need to request a voucher
each time you visit the library and
park in the deck for longer than the
first free hour.
Mitten Tree
Collection Through January 2
Please help us help
needy children and families keep warm
by donating new or clean, gently
used mittens, scarves, gloves
and hats to the NPL Mitten Tree. Items
collected will be distributed through
Normal schools and community centers.
The NPL Mitten Tree is on the main
floor, and we will be collecting through
January 2. We appreciate
your generosity to those less fortunate
in our community.
Teen
Activities at NPL
The Anime/Manga
Club will meet at 4:30
p.m. Tuesday, January 6 & 20.
The January 6 program is the rescheduled
holiday party with a special Christmas
anime and a white elephant gift exchange.

NPL’s Teen Advisory Council
will meet Thursday, January
8 & 22, 4pm in the
Community. All teens in grades 7-12
are welcome, and snacks will be served.
Movie Matinee
for Adults at NPL
NPL’s Movie Matinee
series continues this month at 1:30
p.m. Thursday, January 15.
This month’s offering is My
Favorite Wife starring Cary Grant,
Irene Dunne, Randolph Scott and Gail
Patrick. Ellen Arden arrives 7 years
after being given up for dead in a
shipwreck, to find her husband Nick
just remarried to Bianca. Hilarious
confusion reigns before Nick chooses
his favorite wife. Bring a friend
and enjoy the afternoon – free,
and snacks provided!

Used Books
The Friends of NPL are
happy to accept donations of used
book throughout the year.
Bring them to the library marked ‘for
the Friends book sale’. Please
DO NOT leave your book donations at
the off-site book drops!!
