is a list of the databases that can be accessed 24/7 from
any location. Many
of them can be accessed by entering your last name and your
NPL barcode number.
The
login/passwords for the others can be obtained free by Normal
Public Library cardholders at the Library on a special bookmark.
If you are a Normal Public Library patron please inquire
at the main circulation desk. Access to most of these research
databases was purchased for you by the Normal Public Library.

- This database provides access to hundreds of popular
magazines, newspapers and other references for answers on
virtually any topic. A good source for school research papers.

Illinois - Access a multitude of state information,
including the virtual Illinois Catalog (one site from which
you can search the holdings of 600 libraries), OCLC First
Search and Illinois Government Information.
First
Search - Provides instant online access to more that
75 databases used to find published works at virtually any
library. Library holdings are displayed up front, so users
can identify items in their own library's collection.
Heritage
Quest Online (Library Bar Code Required) - Trace your
roots, examine the events and people that shaped your city
and state, study the development of settlements and early
businesses in your area. You have access to: family genealogies,
county & town histories, church and school histories,

Express Library - a completely interactive online learning
platform of practice tests and tutorial course series designed
to help patrons, students, and adult learners succeed on
the academic or licensing tests they must pass. You'll get
immediate scoring, complete answer explanations, and an
individualized analysis of your results. Click on new user
and enter "61761" plus the 9 numerical digits
of your library card number as the User Name and then create
a password of your choosing. You will then be able to click
on Returning User from then on and use your User Name and
created password everytime you return.

- An electronic resource to meet the needs of fiction
readers, Novelist provides enhanced subject access to over
70,000 fiction titles. It also contains over 1000 subject-oriented
booklists and complete lists for over 150 book awards.
When prompted, enter the first five digits of your library

ProQuest
Direct - A periodical database covering 16 topics including
arts, business, education, health, law, sciences, social
sciences, etc. This database also includes access to over
100 midwest newspapers as well as the Wall Street Journal
and USA Today.
Reference
USA Business Database - A comprehensive database of
over 12 million businesses. When prompted, enter your Normal
Public Library card number.
Rosetta
Stone Language Learning Center - A language learning
program offering 28 different languages. To access the program
click the provided link to get to the welcome page. Click
on register and you will be prompted to create a username
& password and enter your library card number and an
email address. You will need to download Macromedia Shockwave
Player if your computer does not already have it.
Sirs
Researcher - A comprehensive database providing access
to articles on social science, health, history, business,
etc. An excellent source for government documents.
Standard
& Poor's - The world's foremost provider of independent
credit ratings, indices, risk evaluation, investment research,
data and valuations. It also gives you access to the most
popular research products including Industry Surveys, Stock
Reports, Mutual Fund Reports, Bond Reports, Corporation
Records, The Register of Corporations, Directors and Executives,
and The Outlook, among others. When prompted enter your
user id: "normal" and your Normal Public Library
barcode as the password.
